Students receive honors

UC-Santa Barbara recently placed three local students on the dean's honors list for the 1997 fall quarter. Pre-biology major Kristin Deanne Favero and undeclared major Molly Mueller, both from Los Gatos, along with ecology and evolution major Garrett Snyder of Monte Sereno had to maintain a 3.75 grade-point average for the fall quarter to make the dean's list.

Middle School Teachers go to national convention

Four seventh- and eighth-grade teachers from Rolling Hills Middle School recently attended the National Science Teachers Association's Western Area Convention, held in Denver at the Colorado Convention Center. April Bignell, Sarah Perry, Sujatha Raghu and Fred Guest joined some 3,000 teachers from across the nation in attending the convention Nov. 20-22. They participated in three days of workshops, courses and sessions to learn about the latest information in science instruction and about the latest teaching programs.

Fisher students compete in Knowledge Master Open

A team of students from Fisher Middle School competed with 1,014 other schools from the U.S. and abroad in the Knowledge Master Open on Dec. 3. The school placed fourth in California and 57th nationally. Mary Lou Fall, the school's library specialist, coached. Kyla Jemison and Valerie Wingfield were co-captains. The team consisted of Joey Auricchio, Max Benesi, Rachel Colloff, Stephanie Duchin, Melissa Fall, Remy Goldberg, Matt Herrick, Suzanne Humbert, Lisa Jemison, Mark Lubeck, Karen Rossmassier, Aaron Silberstein, Daniel Solomon, Cyrill Stephens, Cherie Williams, Bianca Yacoub and Kevin Yen.
