The Prowler

Celebrating a 50th anniversary is always special--in regards to marriage, it signifies a long-lasting love and commitment. No wonder they call it the "golden" anniversary.

The Prowler thinks these same adjectives are pretty descriptive of the folks at the Los Gatos Dog and Cat Hospital, who recently celebrated their 50th year in business. After all, how could anyone become a veterinarian without feeling loving toward us animals and being committed to our care?

This cat knows well that most critters don't care much for paying a visit to the vet, and apparently the docs at LGDCH know this, too, because they recently obtained a "Vet Van" and use it to make house calls. The Prowler hears from some canine and feline friends that the van was once an ambulance that's been modified to be an animal hospital on wheels.

Paws up to Drs. Frandle, Pachorek, Kaspar and Sheehy for a considerate and compassionate idea. For those readers who live in the Santa Cruz mountains, don't forget that Dr. Jon Wilson's entire veterinary practice is on wheels--the Mobile Pet Clinic. The mountains where he makes his own home are also where he conducts his business.

It may not be as local as these nearby veterinarians, but being a cool cat, the Prowler just has to make quick mention of the Sophisticats Cat Club and its ninth annual Championship and Household Pet Cat Show. More than 200 purebred and "mutt" cats and kittens will be strutting their stuff Jan. 24-25 in the Gateway Hall of the Santa Clara County Fairgrounds. There will also be cats available for adoption. Call 982-9055 for tickets and info.
