On His Appointed Rounds
On Jan. 14, U.S. Rep. Mike Honda delivered mail to downtown Los Gatos businesses, following postal carrier Jim Sullivan on his route. Honda was sworn in as an official letter carrier in the morning and delivered mail to 369 addresses. Honda wanted to recognize postal carriers everywhere and show his confidence in the U.S. Postal Service, whose business has waned nationally since the anthrax scare. In 2000, the Los Gatos post office delivered more than 52 million pieces of mail; the volume has so far decreased by approximately 15 percent in 2002. Honda, who represents the 15th Congressional District, donned the proper attire before beginning the route that includes Main Street and Santa Cruz Avenue.
