Crane wins gold

Nick Crane of Los Gatos won a gold medal at 145 pounds competing for Bellarmine at the Gary Bianchini Memorial wrestling tournament held Jan. 12 at Cupertino.

Crane, seeded No. 1 in his weight class, beat the tourney's No. 2-seed from Palma 6-4 in the finals to clinch his first-place finish. His individual championship helped the Bells to a team sixth in the tournament.

Busam at UCSB

Keith Busam, a graduate of C.T. English Middle School and Los Gatos High, hammered down 11 kills to star for the UC-Santa Barbara Gauchos against Pepperdine in recent tournament play at Pepperdine. A day earlier, Busam had nine kills for the Gauchos in a match against Long Beach.

Soccer tryouts

The Los Gatos Lock, a girls under-13 select soccer team, is holding tryouts for the spring and fall seasons on Feb. 2-3 and 9-10 at Fisher Middle School. The team is looking for competitive players at all positions. For more information, call Joan Meulman at 408.205.5016 or Jmeulman@2wire.com.

Little League

The Los Gatos Little League will hold player evaluations on Jan. 26 at Baggerly Field at Blossom Hill Park. All boys and girls ages 9-12 who are not returning major division players must attend the evaluation session, even if they don't play to try out for the major division this season.

The player evaluation schedule is: 12-year-olds, 9-10:30 a.m.; 11-year-olds, 10:45 a.m.-12:30 p.m.; 10-year-olds, 1-3 p.m.; 9-year-olds, 3-5 p.m.
