It's time to think about kindergarten
Kindergarten registration packets for Los Gatos Union School District elementary schools 2000-2001 school year will be made available Feb. 10 in the school offices.
Completed packets will be accepted beginning Feb. 21 at the schools.
LGHS locker room plans are approved
Los Gatos-Saratoga Union High School District board members on Jan. 18 approved schematic design plans for the renovation of the boys' and the girls' locker rooms at Los Gatos High School.
The renovations, which will be completed during the summers of 2000 and 2001, include the demolition and rebuilding of the team and wrestling rooms. The locker rooms will have added accessibility, roof replacements, upgraded floors, new toilets, lockers and other interior and exterior upgrades.
LGEEF phone-a-thon was a big success
Los Gatos Elementary Educational Foundation President Karen Sanders Noe reported at the Los Gatos Union High School District board meeting on Jan. 11 that the annual phone-a-thon campaign has so far raised $166,000.
The money provides support for programs such as the art docents, parent education, teacher mini-grants, TNT, triad, AVID, early literacy, homework centers and science in Los Gatos Union School District schools.
Four LGHS student advisers honored
The four academic advisers at Los Gatos High School--Gerry Watanabe, Teri Zappacosta, Elsie Taketa and Kirch DeMartini--were awarded plaques made by Los Gatos High woodshop students at a Los Gatos-Saratoga Joint Union High School District board meeting Jan. 18 for their work with students.
State funding improves libraries in the LGUSD
Los Gatos Union School District board members certified the district's updated library plan allowing all schools within the district to receive $28.86 per K-8 student for school library collection improvements and $10.48 per K-4 student for classroom libraries. The money comes from an appropriation of $158.5 million approved by the state Legislature in 1998 and again in 1999 to fund improvements in California public-school libraries. The district will receive the money in March.
Lexington principal offers Internet class
Lexington School principal Raf Strudley on Feb. 2 will present an introductory Internet workshop for parents. The purpose of the workshop is to give parents an overview of the Internet covering topics such as ISP services, browsers, search engines, sites to visit, Internet safety for children and an introduction to the Lexington School website.
The event takes place from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the school. Interested Lexington parents should call the office to sign up.
