The Prowler
Just as curious cats perk up our ears so we don't miss anything, the Prowler's readers would do well to follow the same plan at these upcoming events.
Fans of hearing live poetry should take note that readings still happen on the first Wednesday of each month in the cozy Cafe Rouge, located at 42 Elm St. On Feb. 16 at 7:30 p.m., instead of preceding the open-mic session with one featured reader, the coffeehouse welcomes readers from Writing for Our Lives, a feminist literary magazine based in Los Gatos. Poets or acoustic musicians hoping to share their own tomes or tunes afterwards should arrive early; the open-mic sign-up sheet fills fast!
Music and dancing galore take place at the 14th annual Celtic Concert on Feb. 5 at 7:30 p.m. in Los Gatos High School's Prentiss Brown Auditorium. Headlining is the award-winning Prince Charles Pipe Band and the Prince Charles Junior Pipe Band. The Prowler has seen these kilt-clad pipers and drummers before and can vouch for their musical prowess. Joining the lineup are the Prince Charles Highland Dance Team, Deeley/Smith Irish Dancers and Scottish tenor Jimmy Wright. Admission is $10 and includes refreshments. For tickets, call 408.356.1747 or 408.265.1008.
For those who prefer quieter outings, the Wild Bird Center of Los Gatos sponsors a Star Party on Feb. 10 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at Sanborn-Skyline County Park in Saratoga. Qualified sky guides and their telescopes help participants chart constellations, learn about distant galaxies and examine the crescent moon. Fee is $5 per person; maps and more details are available at the Wild Bird Center. Call 408.358.2573 for more info!
