Teenagers arrested for a string of local burglaries

By Jeff Kearns

Los Gatos/Monte Sereno police arrested two teenagers for a series of seven residential burglaries on Jan. 22, after responding to a call from a resident who returned home to find one of the suspects inside.

According to Det. Tim Morgan, the suspects fled but were soon picked up on El Gato Lane by police responding to the call. Sgt. Don Dequine searched the juveniles and found each in possession of a gun, taken in another burglary, as well as beer, cigarettes, cash, a blank check and a driver's license.

Morgan says the suspects are believed to have burglarized four homes in the area that afternoon, as well as three other nearby homes on Jan. 18. None of the homes showed any sign of forced entry.

The burglaries occurred in the vicinity of Los Gatos-Almaden Road and Camino del Campo. Two of the houses broken into on Jan. 18 were in an adjacent area of San Jose.

Police charged the 16- and 17-year-old suspects, whose names were not released, with seven burglaries, as well as possession of stolen property, possession of concealed firearms and possession of loaded firearms. The 17-year-old is also charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Police ask anyone with information that may be related to the case to call LGPD detectives at 354-6825.
