EMQ contracts with managed care agency

Eastfield Ming Quong, the Campbell-based community mental health agency, has contracted with the Santa Clara County Individual Practice Association to provide mental health services for children and adolescents on a referral basis.

The 800-doctor individual practice association is one of four major managed care operations to contract with EMQ as it expands its services.

Swim & Racquet Club earns tennis award

The United States Tennis Association has chosen the Los Gatos Swim and Racquet Club as the Organization of the Year for the USTA Northern California Section.

Over the years, the Los Gatos Swim and Racquet Club has donated its 13 lighted outdoor tennis courts to USTA programs and has also opened them to the general public. Last October, the club became the site for the first annual BJK Day, a fundraising idea of founder JoAnn Denevi to bolster the women's tennis program at SJSU. Billie Jean King was the keynote player.

Local resident makes good as chiropractor

Los Gatan Robert Dickman received his doctor of chiropractic degree with academic honors at the fall-quarter commencement of Palmer College of Chiropractic West, located in San Jose. A 1983 graduate of Los Gatos High School, Dickman earned a bachelor's degree at San Jose State University prior to beginning his studies at Palmer West in 1993.

Along with graduating cum laude and with clinical excellence honors, Dickman's high GPA and service to his college and profession also earned him membership in Pi Tau Delta, a chiropractic honor society. He plans to practice in Los Gatos.

Research team award includes Los Gatan

Abbott Laboratories, an Illinois-based diversified health-care company, has announced the winners of its Outstanding Research Team award, which recognizes a team's work in the company, excellence in science and leadership in the research and development community.

Donald F. Peters of Los Gatos, along with six other Bay Area individuals, received an award of Abbott stock as well as $5,000 to donate to a university of his choice. Peters and his colleagues earned their award for developing the Cell-Dyn 4000 system, which is a new hematology lab instrument for hospital and medical laboratories.

New Scout president from Monte Sereno

At its annual meeting in December, the Santa Clara County Council of the Boy Scouts of America elected Monte Sereno resident Gene Blakeslee to serve as council president and chairman of the board.

Blakeslee, the executive vice president and chief financial officer for San Jose National Bank, was a Boy Scout himself as a youth in Oregon. He has served on the local Boy Scout Council's board of directors for many years, most recently as vice president of finance. He is also active in the Rotary Club of San Jose.
