Music in the Plaza seeks musicians' demo tapes

The Town of Los Gatos Arts Commission is now accepting demo packets from musicians and musical groups interested in performing in the 1998 Music in the Plaza (MIP) summer concert series.

The concerts take place on Sunday afternoons in the Town Plaza, generally from 5 to 7 p.m., starting June 21 and running through Aug. 30. The Arts Commission always arranges a diverse program of music in a variety of styles, forms and cultural traditions.

MIP performances from previous years have included big band, bluegrass, Celtic, classical, gospel, jazz, light opera, mariachi music, oldies, R&B, rock and soul.

Although the concerts are free, the Art Commission raises funds to pay performers through community contributions--both private citizens and local businesses--in the form of donations and sponsorships. Contributions in any amount are welcome.

The deadline for demo tapes and packets is March 27. Packets can be mailed to Town of Los Gatos, Call for Entries/Music in the Plaza, P.O. Box 949, Los Gatos, 95031. For more information on this or on making donations, call the Los Gatos Community Services Department at 354-6820.
