Town Council appoints new commissioners

The Town Council named several residents to commission and committee chairs recently, in a second round of appointments to town posts.

James Lyon was selected to fill the seat on the Historic Preservation Committee vacated by Nicole Clapp. Lyon, who took architecture classes while attending UC-Berkeley, has renovated historic homes and is currently renovating his own historic house.

Sandy Schramm and Jim Sugai were picked for the Trails and Bikeways Committee, along with Pete Siemens and Joan Tabb, who were reappointed. Sugai is retired after working for 22 years in the Los Gatos Parks Department. Siemens, a retired rocket engineer, is also on the board of the Mid-Peninsula Regional Open Space District.

Also appointed were David Bridenthal and Elke Groves, both named to the Arts Commission, and Don Shallock, who was named to the Board of Appeals.

Hillside residents invited to program

The Santa Clara County Fire Department holds a workshop on hillside fire safety Feb. 10 at Fire Department Headquarters, 14700 Winchester Blvd., near Lark Avenue, from 6:30 to 9 p.m.

The workshop will cover clearing vegetation, evacuation procedures, fire-safe landscaping and how to establish or improve water supplies. Ordinances and regulations affecting high fire-hazard areas will also be explained.

The department will also perform property inspections upon request.
