Obituaries

Fosco Piva

Los Gatos resident Fosco Piva died of respiratory failure Dec. 20 at the age of 78.

He was born Sept. 30, 1919, in Meduna di Livenza in the Italian province of Treviso. During World War II, Piva served in the Italian army and was one of three Meduna men out of 17 to survive their military service during the war.

He immigrated to Fort William (Thunder Bay), Ontario, Canada, in 1948. He married wife Carlotta in 1950. A year later, the couple moved to Detroit, where they lived for the next decade, after which they settled in Los Gatos.

Piva worked as a self-employed brick and stone mason for most of his life, in both Detroit and Los Gatos. Upon his 1988 retirement, he became interested in gardening, walking, reading and traveling with local senior citizen groups. He also continued his longtime interests in ballroom dancing, opera and classical music.

Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Carlotta Piva of Los Gatos, son John Piva and daughter Joanne Maginnis, all of Los Gatos.

A celebration of Piva's life has been held, with inurnment at Los Gatos Memorial Park. Donations may be made to the American Red Cross, 2731 N. First St., San Jose, 95134.

Rev. John Bouquet

The Rev. John E. Bouquet died Dec. 27 in Medford, Ore., where he had been living. He was 86.

Born April 18, 1911, in Kansas City, Mo., he earned a bachelor of arts degree from Park College in Parkville, Mo., in 1931 and a bachelor of divinity degree from Princeton Theological Seminary in 1934. In 1937, he earned a master's degree in theology from Auburn/Union Theological Seminary.

The Presbyterian minister served in churches in Pennsylvania and Wisconsin and was also a U.S. Army chaplain during World War II. He received an honorary doctorate of divinity degree from Parkville College and was named pastor emeritus of the Neenah, Wis., Presbyterian Church, where he served from 1947 through 1976.

After his retirement that same year, Bouquet and his wife moved to Los Gatos, where they lived until four years ago, when they moved to the Rogue Valley area of Oregon.

Bouquet was a member of Rotary International for 41 years and belonged to the Presbytery of San Jose of the Presbyterian Church U.S.A. He was also a member of the original committee that planned and made possible The Terraces of Los Gatos and served as a member of Community Against Substance Abuse (CASA), the Los Gatos Senior Coordinating Council and the board of directors of Second Harvest Food Bank.

Survivors include wife Margaret Bouquet of Medford, Ore.; son John David Bouquet of West Covina, Calif.; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son and two brothers.

Memorial services have been held in Oregon. Bouquet will be interred March 28 at the Presbyterian Church of Los Gatos.

Mark Magee

Longtime Los Gatan Mark Magee, who had been residing in Santa Cruz, died by accidental drowning Jan. 7 at the age of 28.

Born Sept. 3, 1969, in Santa Clara, Magee went through Lexington Elementary School, Fisher Middle School and Los Gatos High School. He participated in track, basketball and football programs at all levels. He had also attended UC-Davis.

He was preceded in death by father John. J. Magee. Survivors include mother Glenice Magee of Los Gatos; brothers and sisters-in-law John and Mary Magee of Fremont and Steve and Lisa Magee of Modesto; nieces and nephews Megan, Sarah, Michael and Ryan; and grandmother Pearl Bragg of Connell, Wash.

Memorial services have been held, with inurnment at Los Gatos Memorial Park. Donations may be made to an environmental cause of choice.

Mary Stojanovich

Longtime Los Gatan Mary Martha Curfman Stojanovich died Jan. 24.

Born in Salida, Colo., Stojanovich earned a bachelor's degree from Northwestern University and was initiated into the Phi Beta Kappa Society. She later earned a master's degree in psychology from Stanford University.

Stojanovich worked as a child psychologist for several years in the Bay Area and also served on the board of Ming Quong. Family and friends remember her for her youthfulness and spirit of adventure and for the joy she brought to those around here.

Survivors include husband John Stojanovich of Los Gatos; daughters and sons-in-law Franja and Colin Barry of Palo Alto and Susan and David Collins of Monte Sereno; and granddaughters McKenzie and Chloe Collins of Monte Sereno.

A memorial service will be held Feb. 7 at 11 a.m. at Darling-Fischer Chapel of the Hills in Los Gatos.
