The Prowler

The Prowler still isn't sure what it is about February that encourages so many special events--and these don't even have to do with Valentine's Day. That romantic holiday is a whole other ballgame, and a game that certainly does not lack players.

Without further ado, here are two more cool upcoming events that coincidentally occur on the same date. Perhaps it's just a case of "GMTA," which stands for "Great minds think alike."

On Feb. 7 at 7:30 p.m., the Los Gatos High School auditorium will be filled with "the swirl of the kilt and the skirl of the pipes"--it's time for the 12th annual Celtic Concert, presented by and featuring the Prince Charles Pipe Band, a nonprofit organization.

Other entertainers include Bruce Davies, a singer/songwriter direct from Bonnie Scotland; the N.C.H.D.A. Highland Dancers, Deeley's Irish Dancers, Scottish smallpipes player Bruce Woodley and a rousing drum corps salute. Tickets are $10 and include refreshments; no tickets will be sold at the door. Fans of all things Celtic can call 356-1747 or 265-1008 for info.

Also on Feb. 7 is the ninth annual Pennsylvania Groundhog Party, which celebrates Groundhog Day, the legend of Punxsutawney Phil and the great state of Pennsylvania. It also raises money for charity. Food, music and singing are part of the festivities.

The event takes place at the Palo Alto Elks Lodge, but there are local connections--the sponsoring Groundhog Club of Silicon Valley (which comprises 150 former Pennsylvanians) has members throughout the South Bay, and its president is Saratogan Jack Mallory. For more info, call 243-1102.
