Night to remember for Wildcats
By Dick Sparrer
It was a night to remember.
The Los Gatos boys basketball team did everything right, and Gunn turned out to be in the wrong place at the wrong time as the Wildcats rolled to a 77-44 win over the Titans last Wednesday night.
"We played an absolutely great game," admitted Gatos coach Jim Marino. "It was our best game in a long time."
The Wildcats shot 58 percent from the field (32 for 55) and outscored Gunn in every period on the road to the lopsided victory.
"We just shot the ball unbelievably well," said Marino. "We ran the floor and we hit the open shots."
Chris Clock and Scott Holbert led the shooting assault for the Wildcats. Clock hit eight of 12 shots on his way to a 20-point night, and Holbert pitched in six of eight shots and finished with 16. Clock had a three-pointer among his eight field goals.
Ben Sandigo had a big night for the Wildcats with 14 points and nine rebounds.
"He's just back from an ankle injury and almost 100 percent," said Marino of Sandigo. "He makes a big difference for us."
Nik Kay had five buckets to finish with 10 points.
Trent Edwards added just three points for the Cats, but led the club with 15 rebounds and added five assists.
"He really controlled the boards," said Marino of Edwards.
Jayson Furia and Kyle Gisler each drilled three-pointers for the Cats, and Furia led the club with six assists.
The Wildcats, 4-4 in the De Anza Division of the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League and 10-12 for the year, face a couple of big tests this week. The Cats host first-place Milpitas on Feb. 5, at 7 p.m., and Palo Alto on Feb. 8, at 7:30 p.m.
