Gatos girls blank two soccer foes
By Dick Sparrer
Don't allow the other team to score, and you can't lose.
It's a simple philosophy--but one that the Los Gatos girls soccer team put into practice last week in a pair of games in the El Camino Division of the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League.
The Cats blanked Wilcox in a 3-0 victory and shut out Milpitas 1-0 two days later to improve to 10-1 in the division and to 12-2-2 for the year.
It was a second-half goal by senior Kate Demers off an assist from senior co-captain Kirstin Horn that sparked the Cats to the 1-0 win over the Trojans last week.
Two days earlier, sophomore Ali Dodson had a goal and an assist and junior Carolyn Penner added two assists to lead the Wildcats to a 3-0 win over Wilcox.
Dodson scored off a Penner assist and soph Alison Thomas scored off a Dodson assist to put the Cats up 2-0 at the half. Junior Emily Shanker scored an insurance goal off a Penner assist in the second half.
Los Gatos will close out the regular season on Feb. 5 when the Wildcats host Mountain View at 3:30 p.m.
The Los Gatos boys, meanwhile, dropped a pair of games last week. The Wildcats lost 3-0 to Palo Alto and 3-0 to Los Altos to slip to 1-6-4 in the De Anza Division of the SCVAL and to 3-10-4 for the year.
