During its annual organizational meeting held in mid-December, the Los Gatos-Saratoga Joint Union High School District Governing Board members elected Renée Patton as president. Also elected were Robert Dunnett, vice president; Ron Adolphson, clerk; and Superintendent Tod Likins, secretary.

Adolphson will serve as representative to the KCAT Board; outgoing president Robert Allen will represent the district on the Institute of Computer Technology Board; Dunnett will serve as representative to the county Committee on School District Organization; and Nancy Crampton will continue as representative to the Central County Occupation Committee.

Ten Los Gatos and Saratoga fifth- through eighth-graders were represented in the 22nd annual American History Essay Contest sponsored by the Los Gatos Chapter of the National Society of Daughters of the American Revolution. A total of 179 students submitted essays on this year's topic: "Explorers in America."

The following first- and second-place winners and runners-up read their essays and received recognition at a Feb. 5 ceremony at 2 p.m. at the Saratoga Public Library: Argonaut student Reshini Patel; Fisher students Stone Hsu, Jeff Peckler and Kyle Stairs; Lakeside student Sara Garbatz; Sacred Heart students Lucas Crowley, Charlene Killebrew and Kathleen Loncaria; and St. Mary's students Guy Ezard and Nick Travis.
