Los Gatos Weekly-TimesRowers stage fundraiser for Feb. 21The Los Gatos Rowing Club holds its fourth annual Row-A-Thon fundraiser Feb. 21--the same day as The Great Race--in the Los Gatos Town Plaza at the corner of S. Santa Cruz Avenue and W. Main Street. The event pits 25 teams of adult and teenage rowers against each other to see who can row the farthest on rowing machines. Hours for the event are 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. This year's proceeds benefit high-school rowers. The club's goal is to raise $25,000--a modest proposal in light of the nearly $30,000 the event raised last year. The nonprofit LGRC works on a volunteer basis to raise money for its programs and facilities, including a new boathouse in 1996 and a new dock in 1998. Founded in 1978, the LGRC offers the only rowing program in the South Bay open to the public--including many local high school rowing teams and recreational rowers of all ages. The day's activities include a drawing for rowing lessons. For more information about the LGRC or its upcoming Row-A-Thon, call 279-3776.
