Band Bandits hold tryouts

The Bend Bandits of the Class AA Western Baseball League will hold tryouts on Feb. 22-23 at Cañada College in Redwood City. Professional experience is preferred but not required, and players must provide their own equipment. Registration begins promptly at 9 a.m.

Woods tops honors list

Oakland A's slugger Mark McGwire and golf sensation Tiger Woods will top the list of honorees when the Bay Area Sports Hall of Fame hosts its annual Enshrinement Banquet Feb. 18 at the Westin St. Francis in San Francisco.

McGwire, the power-hitting first baseman for the Oakland A's, is the professional athlete of the year. McGwire joined an elite list of major league players last year when he topped the 50-home run mark for a season.

Woods has been selected the male collegiate athlete of the year for the second straight year by the voting committee. Stanford All-American volleyball player Kristin Folkl is the female collegiate athlete of the year.

Winning Hall of Fame induction will be Dan Fouts, San Diego Chargers quarterback; George Yardley, Stanford basketball; John Ralston, college and pro football coach; and the late Chuck Taylor, Stanford football.

All-Comers Meets

Los Gatos will host the annual All-Comers track and field meets on Saturdays through Feb. 22 at the high school track. The entry fee is $3, $2 for spectators. For more information, call Willie Harmatz at 354-7365.

Youth Soccer

The Los Gatos United Soccer League spring soccer season for boys and girls ages 6-18 begins Feb. 15, and registration is now under way. For more information on the spring program, call 988-6900.
