Entries are now being accepted for 1996 Miss Santa Clara County and Ambassador of Santa Clara County, who will serve as official hostess and host of the Santa Clara County Fair from July 24 to Aug. 4.
This competition has been held annually since 1948 and is a preliminary to the California State Youth Accolades Scholarship Competition, which runs from July 8 to 14. The fair awards a $1,000 educational scholarship to both the host and the hostess; $3,000 is split among the alternates.
Applicants must be: residents of Santa Clara County or registered students in county schools, between the ages of 16 and 23, and at least juniors in high school. Additionally, if selected, host and hostess must be available to participate in the fair and the 1996 California State Youth Accolades Scholarship Competition.
The fair host and hostess will be selected on Feb. 24 at the Santa Clara County Fairgrounds. Entrants will be judged on academic achievement, community service and participation in interviews, public speaking and performance competitions. All applications, accompanied by a $10 application fee, must be received by Feb. 13.
