Driver charged in Loma Alta crash

By Shari Kaplan

At least one resident near the intersection of Loma Alta Avenue and Los Gatos Boulevard was rudely awakened at 10:50 p.m. on Feb. 7 when a 1966 Oldsmobile alternately flew and crashed into nearby cars and homes.

According to Los Gatos Police Sgt. Tricia Friedrich, San Jose resident Roy Michael Renolds, 20, was driving with three passengers westbound on Loma Alta Avenue at "an extremely high rate of speed." Renolds was unable to stop at the Los Gatos Boulevard stop sign and lost control of the car. He was later charged with felony drunken driving.

According to the police, the car first hit the driveway entrance at 99 Los Gatos Blvd., which caused the car to become airborne and crash into the house at 101 Los Gatos Blvd. It then bounced away, hit two parked BMWs and finally came to rest on the east side of 99 Los Gatos Blvd. Friedrich said a woman who was sleeping in the house was knocked out of bed from the impact of Renolds' car crashing into her bedroom wall.

Fire and ambulance crews and several police cars arrived on the scene. Renolds and his passengers suffered cuts and abrasions and complained of pain in various parts of their bodies. Two were taken to Valley Medical Center and two to Good Samaritan Hospital.
