The Great Race

As races go, this one is great ... in more ways than one.

It's a great course, it's a great challenge and it's great exercise.

Add it all up, and it's the annual Great Race, sponsored by the Los Gatos Rotary Club.

And if past years are any indication, more than 2,500 runners should take off when the starting gun blasts at 9 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 25.

It's a great course that runs alongside Highway 9 from Saratoga to Los Gatos, and it's a 3.8-mile course that provides runners with a great challenge. What's more, entrants will get some great exercise as they run or walk the nearly four miles from one town to the other.

Race day registration will begin at 7 a.m., and the registration fee for the race that will be held rain or shine is $16. For more information, call 980-7223.

Baseball School

Two Los Gatos youth baseball organizations are joining forces to sponsor the Doyle Baseball Coaches School that's coming to town Feb. 27-28.

The school, co-sponsored by the Los Gatos Little League and Los Gatos Pony League, is for all managers, coaches and interesting parents. It will be held that Tuesday and Wednesday, 6-10 p.m. each night, in the cafeteria at Fisher Middle School. The registration fee is $20.

The coaches school will be followed by a clinic for players ages 9-16 (dates are still pending). The clinic is also open to coaches and parents. Those who attend the school will attend the clinic for free.

For more information on the program, call Bill Frey of the Pony League at 356-1317 or Dan O'Gorman of the Little League at 354-8504.

All-Comers meets

The Los Gatos All-Comers track and field meets continue at the Los Gatos all-weather facility through March 2. Competition begins at 1:30 p.m. each Saturday. The entry fee is $3, and the cost for spectators is $2. For more information, call Willie Harmatz at 354-7365.
