TIME TO ORDER DAFFODILS

If February's here, can Daffodil Days be far behind? The harbinger of spring (and hope), the daffodil, has become an annual symbol of the American Cancer Society. And if volunteers of the Santa Clara County Unit have their way, the valley will be flooded with the bright yellow flowers during the week of March 25. That's when volunteers will deliver bunches and baskets of daffodils to individuals and companies and to cancer patients.

To reserve daffodils, call 1-800-909-DAFF no later than March 8. A bunch of 10 daffodils costs $7; an arrangement of 25 in a basket is $55, and a large basket of 50 daffodils and greenery is $110. Orders for one location totaling $50 or more are delivered at no charge. Orders totaling less that $50 can be picked up at Sunnyvale Town Center, the Great Mall in Milpitas, Nordstrom in Palo Alto and Nob Hill Foods in Campbell and Los Gatos. Many companies and organizations also have Daffodil Days representatives with whom orders can be placed.

Gifts of Hope--daffodils in an etched glass vase--can be delivered to cancer patients throughout the valley. Last year, 4,000 Gifts of Hope were delivered to patients, and volunteers are hoping to increase that to 5,000 this year.

Daffodil Days is a major fundraising activity of the American Cancer Society. Proceeds benefit local Cancer Society programs of cancer research, education, advocacy and patient services.
