Music in the Plaza seeks demo tapes for concerts

The Los Gatos Arts Commission is accepting demo tapes or CDs and information packets from musicians and musical groups interested in performing in the 2000 Music in the Plaza (MIP) summer concert series.

The free concerts take place on Sunday afternoons in the Town Plaza Park, generally from 5 to 7 p.m., starting June 18 and running through Aug. 27. The nonprofit Arts Commission is dedicated to providing a program of music in a variety of styles, forms and cultural traditions. MIP performances from previous years have included big band, bluegrass, Celtic, classical, gospel, jazz, light opera, Mariachi music, oldies, R&B, rock and soul.

Although the concerts are free to the public, the Art Commission raises funding to pay performers through contributions from the community--from both private citizens and local businesses--in the form of donations and sponsorships. Contributions in any amount are welcome.

The deadline for demo packets is March 20. They may be mailed to Town of Los Gatos, Attn: Tara Lang, P.O. Box 949, Los Gatos, 95031. Musicians who submitted demos last year should contact the Los Gatos Community Services Department before submitting again this year.

For more information on Music in the Plaza or demos, donations or sponsorships, call 408.354.6820.
