    By Dick Sparrer

Katy Castaneda buried three goals, and Bethany Peterson had a goal and four assists to lead the Los Gatos girls soccer team to back-to-back wins last week in the De Anza Division of the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League.

Castaneda knocked in two goals in a 5-0 win over Milpitas to open the week, and Peterson came back with a goal and three assists in a 5-1 victory over Los Altos.

The two wins helped the Wildcats improve to 5-8-1 in the division and to 6-11-2 for the year.

Castaneda scored twice and Becky May, Kristen Horn and Stacey Shanker added goals in the win over the Trojans. Peterson, Horn, Meghan Kirby-McFarland, Nicki Anderson and Stephanie Ryan each had assists for the Wildcats.

Peterson had the goal and three assists to lead the Cats to the win over the Eagles. Castaneda, Lindsay Adams, Kristen Fumia and Amanda Vallejo also scored goals, and Sunny Vizzusi had an assist.

Leigh, 5-3-5 in division play and 9-5-6 for the year, will now enter in the Central Coast Section Division I playoffs. The Longhorns will visit Monta Vista on Feb. 16, 2:30 p.m., with the winner advancing to the quarterfinals on Feb. 19, 10 a.m., against Live Oak at Alisal.

Meanwhile, the boys and Los Gatos and Leigh were each winless in league play last week, though the Wildcats did manage a pair of ties.

The Cats fought Lynbrook to a 1-1 draw and tied Los Altos 1-1 to stretch their record to 5-2-5 in the De Anza Division of the SCVAL.

Miguel Ryan knocked in a second-half penalty kick to help the Wildcats to the 1-1 tie against the Vikings.

Chris Manganello scored off an assist from Greg Blevins to lift Gatos to a 1-1 tie against Los Altos later in the week.

Los Gatos, now 8-5-7 for the year, earned a place in the CCS playoffs. The Cats will visit St. Ignatius on Feb. 16, 2:30 p.m., to open the tournament. The winner will face the Capuchino-Prospect first-round winner on Feb. 19, 2:30 p.m., in the quarterfinals at Sequoia High School in Redwood City.
