Men now have an easier way to register with the Selective Service. They no longer have to go to the post office, fill out a form and wait up to 90 days for their number. Now it can all be done via the Internet.
Earlier this month, the United States government launched a Selective Service registration Web site. Now 18- to 25-year-old men--who are required by law to register-- can simply enter their information between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. on weekdays and instantly receive their Selective Service number. Applicants also receive a formal acknowledgment postcard in the mail within two weeks of registration.
