Chowder Chase
Runners will take off in the Great Chowder Chase on Feb. 23 when the starting gun blasts at 8:45 a.m. at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk to get the 4 1/2-mile run under way. The registration fee is $25, and proceeds benefit the Santa Cruz Parks and Recreation Department. For more information, call 429-3477.
Baseball School
Instructors from the Arizona headquarters of the Doyle Baseball School will be in Los Gatos on Feb. 22-23 to host an instructional school for players ages 6-16.
The school, co-hosted by the Los Gatos Little League and Pony League, will be held at the Blossom Hill baseball facility. Los Gatos coaches who participated in the Jan. 11 coaches school presented by Doyle will assist in the instruction process.
School hours are 9 a.m.- 3 p.m. on Feb. 22 and noon- 5 p.m. on Feb. 23. The cost is $80 for players who register by Feb. 19, or $90 on the day of the school. For more information, call Dan O'Gorman at 354-8504 or Bill Frey at 356-1317.
Bandits hold tryouts
The Bend Bandits of the Class AA Western Baseball League will hold tryouts on Feb. 22-23 at Cañada College in Redwood City. Professional experience is preferred but not required, and players must provide their own equipment. Registration begins promptly at 9 a.m.
All-Comers Meets
Los Gatos will host the annual All-Comers track and field meets on Saturdays through Feb. 22 at the high school track. The entry fee is $3, $2 for spectators. For more information, call Willie Harmatz at 354-7365.
Jackson top student
Alan Jackson of Los Gatos, an arts and science major at Lehigh University, won a place on the fall honor roll while competing for the school's men's cross country team. Jackson, a Westmont graduate, was a top runner for Lehigh.
