The Prowler
Did everyone have a good Valentine's Day? The Prowler hopes so! For those who are feeling a little disenchanted in the romantic holiday's wake, here are some events that might help in taking one's mind off matters of the heart.
The Santa Clara Valley Gem & Mineral Society is holding an interesting meeting on Feb. 26 at 7:45 p.m. at the Belwood Homeowners Cabana, 100 Belwood Gateway in Los Gatos. This month's guest is paleobotanist Walter Wright, who will give a talk titled "Geologic Time and the Evolution of Continents and Habitats." As his title suggests, paleobotany is the study of fossilized plants, algae and fungi. There is no charge to attend the event, and everyone is welcome. For more information, call 408.356.8254.
Speaking of plants, this tree-climbing, tree-loving feline has to give a quick plug to Our City Forest, a nonprofit that trains "Tree Amigos" to assist other volunteers in planting. The next training course begins March 6 and runs Sunday afternoons and Wednesday nights through March 30. It includes a nursery tour and a planting project. Although based in San Jose, Our City Forest plants trees in other local cities as well. Call 408.99-TREES for all the details!
Back to Los Gatos for the Prowler's final public service announcement--since that's what it seems like today's column is about. It's come to this cat's attention that some folks don't know the Los Gatos-Saratoga Community Education & Recreation Center at 123 E. Main St. is available at an hourly rental rate for birthday and anniversary parties, banquets, seminars and other private or community events. Information is available by calling 408.354.8700, ext. 226.
