Police seek information on alleged rape at inn

Police are looking for a Caucasian man in his 30s after he allegedly raped a guest at the Los Gatos Motor Inn on Los Gatos-Saratoga Road.

The suspect reportedly forced his way into one of the rooms at the inn at approximately 12:30 a.m. on Feb. 8, while waving a knife at the woman inside. He then raped the victim, a woman in her 20s who was in town for business.

Los Gatos-Monte Sereno Police were called to the inn at 8:30 that morning, where they collected evidence that is now being processed in the Santa Clara County Crime Lab.

According to police reports, the victim said the man was between 5 feet, 8 inches and 5 feet, 10 inches, with a medium build. His hair was short and either blond or light brown; his eyes were brown. He had crooked yellow teeth and was wearing dark gloves and a dark windbreaker over jeans.

The knife that the suspect brandished was dark, larger than his hand and had a small blade on top. Police characterized the weapon as a "box-cutter-style knife."

Sgt. Kerry Harris said the suspect was likely someone who had been loitering around the inn and saw the victim go inside her room. "There's no indication that the suspect knew the victim or the victim knew the suspect," Harris said. As a result, police are searching not only for the suspect, but also people who were near the inn at the time and could have seen the suspect.
