When Pete Denevi appears Feb. 27 before the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors, he says, he'll be armed with two letters and a commitment from Hong Kong Metro Realty to leave undeveloped some 98 percent of the 900 acres surrounding his proposed golf course and country club.
He hopes this will convince the board to overturn the Planning Commission's Dec. 7 decision to deny his application for the Los Gatos Country Club.
The problem is, according to Planning Department staff, they're only aware of one letter and have received no information about the property owned by Hong Kong Metro Realty exclusive of the 200 acres Denevi hopes to develop.
The supervisors could make a decision Feb. 27, but it's more likely they will ask Denevi either to go back to the Planning Commission because he is offering information it didn't have when it made its decision, or to go back and start the process all over because the project is now completely different. Hong Kong, Denevi told the Los Gatos Weekly-Times, eventually would like to build 32 homes.
In rendering its decision, the Planning Commission voted not to certify the environmental impact report. County Planner Patrick Murphy says that one letter from the Fish and Game Department says the proposed mitigations are now adequate. He has not seen a letter Denevi says has been written by the Santa Clara Valley Water District.
Planning commissioners also told Denevi in December they wanted to see plans for the entire 1,130 acres at the old Alma College site. Denevi had earlier represented Hong Kong Realty in purchasing the property and in exchange received an option to buy the 200 acres. He still manages the entire acreage for Hong Kong Realty.
Murphy suggested one possible scenario would be that an additional EIR would be required for the 900 acres.
The supervisors meet at 1:30 p.m. in the Board of Supervisors' chambers in the county building.
