The Los Gatos Police Department is seeking donations for its second annual rummage sale, which is scheduled to take place April 26 and 27 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at a location yet to be determined.
Proceeds from the sale, which last year amounted to approximately $3,500, benefit the Volunteers in Policing program. The department created the program in 1994 to assist police personnel with clerical tasks, data entry, answering telephones, investigative work, patrol checks and other duties.
Within the past year, the number of VIPs has grown from 19 to 54, so there is an increased need to help finance their uniforms, supplies and equipment.
"We had a great response from both the business and residential community with all their contributions, and we're hoping for the same response this year," said LGPD community service officer Gwen Cross.
The department will accept new and used, large and small items for the rummage sale. Tax receipts are available, and the department can make arrangements to pick up donations at residents' homes or offices. For more information, call Cross at 354-6842.
