Report due on PG&E alternates

A report on alternate sites to PG&E's controversial Vasona substation will be presented to the Town Council at the March 2 council meeting. No action will be taken at that time.

Planning staff will present information based on PG&E's Vasona Substation Feasibility Study, published in December, which outlined 16 alternate sites. PG&E identified six of those sites as possibilities.

A PUC hearing will be held March 23 at 7 p.m. in the Town Council chambers.

Jim Cuneen hosts forums

State Assemblymember Jim Cunneen, who represents Los Gatos and other West Valley cities, will moderate panel discussions on health-care and education issues.

Cunneen will host the health care forum Saturday, March 7, from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Monta Vista High School, 21843 McClellan Road (at Bubb), Cupertino. Topics will include the Governor's Health Care Task Force Report, managed care and senior health issues.

Education issues, such as academic standards, technology, charter schools, vouchers and bilingual education will be discussed Saturday, March 7, from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Castillero Middle School, 6384 Leland Park Drive (at Camden), San Jose.

Aid available to storm victims

The Federal Emergency Management Agengy announced last week that anyone whose home was damaged by flooding or mudflows during this winter's storms may be eligible for temporary disaster housing assistance.
