Los Gatos Weekly-TimesRobbers hit a bookstore and bank the same weekBy Shari Kaplan The second week of February was not a good one for two local businesses, both of which were held up within days of each other, although by two different robbers. The first robbery occurred a little after 10 p.m. on Feb. 9 at the Super Crown Books at 636 Blossom Hill Road. According to a report taken by the Los Gatos-Monte Sereno Police Department, the suspect initially bought a newspaper and walked around the store. He then produced what appeared to be a silver revolver, pointed it at an employee behind a cash register and demanded some cash, which she gave him. He ordered the three employees present into a room off the main area of the store and told them not to come out. After waiting approximately five minutes, they left the room and called police. Employees describe the suspect as a white male in his mid-40s, 5 feet, 9 inches tall and 160 pounds with brown eyes, a stubbly face and collar-length brown hair with flecks of gray. He was wearing a white button-down shirt, a dark leather jacket, a blue baseball cap and oval, wire-framed glasses. He also had a slight Southern accent. Friday the 13th was unlucky for the Wells Fargo Bank located at 16100 Los Gatos Blvd. At 2:26 p.m., a man presented a teller with a hold-up note, although no witnesses saw any weapons. He ordered the teller to hurry up, which she did, after which time he left with an undisclosed amount of cash. Witnesses describe the robber as a white male in his 20s or early 30s, 5 feet, 10 inches to 6 feet tall and 170 pounds with long, dirty blond hair. He was wearing a red baseball cap, faded blue jeans and a red windbreaker that possibly had a flannel lining. Police detectives are pursuing leads in both cases and ask anyone with more information to call the investigations bureau at 354-6825.
