The Prowler has always believed that "continuing education" is more a matter of enriching the body, mind and spirit over the course of life than of attending postgraduate courses at a college or university.
Those adventurous readers who feel likewise needn't even leave the town limits to find a variety of cool classes and workshops.
Styled like a game show, complete with hot music CDs as prizes, "The Drug Test: What's Your Drug I.Q.?" is happening at A Place for Teens at 2:30 p.m. on March 6. Teenagers can answer questions and rack up points based on how savvy they are about the downsides of drug use. Remember, cool cats don't do drugs! Call 395-5553 for info.
For some folks, food is an addiction, often causing weight gain and poor self-image. Counselors from Jewish Family Service have put together "Eating Feelings: Weight and Worth," a workshop series open to all who want to nourish themselves in nondestructive ways. The Prowler is a sleek cat, but if you're not, call 356-7576 for times and cost.
Speaking of food, instead of dumping kitchen scraps down the disposal and yard waste in the trash, why not compost? Resourceful residents interested in whipping up some "gardeners' gold" can attend the March 8 home-composting class offered at 9:30 a.m. at the Los Gatos Neighborhood Center. It even includes vermiculture--that's composting with worms. Sign up by calling 299-4147.
Also at the Neighborhood Center is a March 1 symposium billed as "A Morning for You: Coping With Life's Losses." It's given by three women strengthened by adversity. A doctor, psychotherapist and financial planner will talk about--among other things--health and healthcare, relationships and personal finances. A $35 fee includes breakfast and materials, and proceeds benefit CASA and the Peckler Family Memorial Fund. Call 356-5567 for reservations.
