Study session set on Shannon Valley Ranch

The Los Gatos Planning Commission will hold a study session on March 8, at 6 p.m. in the Town Council Chambers. The Greenbriar Land Company proposes to demolish the five existing structures and build 19 homes at 17101 Hicks Road and 14045 Shannon Road.

Two-alarm fire in Los Gatos hills

A fire broke out in a single-family home at approximately 6 p.m. on Feb. 19. Seven fire trucks rushed to 16348 Aztec Ridge Drive, which only had its attic on fire. No injuries were reported, and the flames did not reach other areas of the home. Contents totaling $15,000 were destroyed. A pipe burst in the sprinkler system, however, which caused $250,000 worth of water damage to the property.

A spokesperson for the Santa Clara County Fire Department said the fire was determined to be accidental and minor. "What we had to deal with was a lot of water," she said.

    Lafferty case going forward

A preliminary hearing for the former Los Gatos High School girls' softball coach, accused of having sex with four teenagers, is scheduled for April 9, said Deputy District Attorney Chuck Gillingham.

Todd Lafferty, 26, was to seek early resolution on Feb. 20, but did not come to a plea agreement.

At the preliminary hearing, both sides will present evidence and argue their case. Gillingham said, "Either Lafferty will be bound over for trial, or the judge will decide there's not enough evidence."

Lafferty is currently out on bail and living at his parents' home.
