Longtime Los Gatan Margaret C. Piercy died Feb. 4 at the age of 83.
Piercy, born Dec. 24, 1912, in Hayward, settled in Los Gatos more than 50 years ago. Most recently, she lived in Capitola. A graduate of Los Gatos High School and UC-Berkeley, she held various jobs but spent most of her time as a homemaker, according to sister Ruth Daval. During World War II, Piercy worked in Oakland at a government employment office.
Piercy had been active in the Los Gatos Unitarian Fellowship and the Los Gatos Parent Nursery School. Her high I.Q. qualified her as an alternate in a long-range study conducted by Dr. Lewis Terman at Stanford University, in which he tracked a group of "geniuses" over the years.
Survivors include sons Andrew Piercy of Los Gatos and Martin Piercy of San Jose; sister Ruth Daval of Los Gatos; nieces Mary Daval Nomura of Los Angeles and Nicky Daval of Washington, D.C.; and nephew Charles Daval of Ann Arbor, Mich.
Memorial services were arranged by the Neptune Society. Donations may be made to Huntington's Disease Society of America, 140 W. 22nd St., New York, NY 10011.
