Vikings win big
Bennett Davison poured in 24 points, and Andy Newman and Taplar Mvogo tossed in 16 apiece to lead the West Valley Community College men's basketball team to a lopsided 94-69 win over Cabrillo in the first round of the Northern California Community College playoffs.
Davison jammed nine field goals and was 6-for-7 at the free-throw line to lead all scorers in the win. Newman pitched in three three-pointers and Mvogo hit a pair of threes.
Bob Ladine buried three threes on his way to 13 points, and Scott Reeves drained three threes to finish with nine points for the Vikings. Jacobi Thompson added nine points, Jamaal Sanford hit six and Toby Vares had two.
West Valley improved to 27-2 for the year with the victory.
Coaches school set
Two Los Gatos youth baseball organizations are joining forces to sponsor the Doyle Baseball Coaches School that's coming to town Feb. 27-28.
The school, co-sponsored by the Los Gatos Little League and Los Gatos Pony League, is for all managers, coaches and interested parents. It will be held that Tuesday and Wednesday, 6-10 p.m. each night, in the cafeteria at Fisher Middle School. The registration fee is $20.
The coaches school will be followed by a clinic for players ages 9-16 (dates are still pending). The clinic is also open to coaches and parents. Those who attend the school will attend the clinic for free.

Costa at Foothill
Former Los Gatos girls' basketball star Angie Costa is now starring on the floor for the top-ranked Foothill Community College women's basketball team.
Costa pitched in 14 points for the Owls in a recent 86-69 win over Monterey Peninsula College.
The Owls, 15-0 in the Coast Conference and 30-2 for the year, are the No. 1-ranked women's team in the state this winter.
