    Water the topic at LWV forum

    Anyone interested in taking baths in the future is invited to attend a March 14 lecture entitled "Water: Legislation, Trends and Resources," part of the League of Woman Voters' series of sustainability forums.

    The featured speaker is Chris Elias, environmental director for the Silicon Valley Manufacturers Group. He will speak on water policy and management from both public and private perspectives, followed by a question and answer period.

    The forum will be held at the Saratoga Senior Center at 7:30 p.m.

    Police Department seeks volunteers

    Ever wanted to be a police officer without the danger? The Los Gatos-Monte Sereno Police Department is recruiting citizens to become part of their Volunteer in Policing (VIP) program.

    Positions are available throughout the department, doing jobs such as graffiti patrol, fingerprinting, vehicle transporting, warrant follow-up, and crime prevention.

    Volunteers must attend a 20-hour academy scheduled May 8-13, and must be able to commit a minimum of four hours per week. The deadline to apply in April 17. Call 408.354.6842.

    MROSD receives Bear Creek grant

    The California Wildlife Conservation Board approved a $2 million grant to help permanently protect the Bear Creek Redwoods Open Space Preserve above Los Gatos.

    The grant's recipient, Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District (MROSD), will use the money to pay back the Peninsula Open Space Trust (POST), which bought the upper 805 acres of the 1,065 acre preserve.
