The Prowler
The creative process definitely cannot be pigeonholed! Whether it hangs on a wall, sits in a display case, resounds from a musical instrument or glows from a computer screen--who's to say what is or isn't art?
For Los Gatos Art Association and Mountain Art Guild member Marilyn Powell, impressionist landscapes in oils are how she defines art. Anyone interested in her interpretations can stop by the Whole Foods Cafe in the Cornerstone Shopping Center, where her pretty paintings will hang throughout March.
For something less traditional, check out Treasures at the Los Gatos Museum of Fine Art and Natural Science at 4 Tait Ave. Running March 2-26, the exhibit is a collection of special objects--from paintings to 3-D objects to heirlooms--gleaned from private collections of friends of the Los Gatos Museum Association. According to curator Catherine Politopoulos, "If the owner considers it a 'treasure,' it's in the exhibit." The Prowler hopes this includes some feline-related objects!
St. Luke's Church, at 20 University Ave., has already earned a great reputation for musical events with its evensong series. It now hosts the Palo Alto Chamber Orchestra for a Bach celebration on March 18 at 8 p.m. The program includes chamber and orchestral music and a cantata. Admission is $12 for adults and $10 for students and seniors. For more information call the PACO at 650.856.3848.
Finally, for would-be computer geeks out there, the Los Gatos-Saratoga Department of Community Education and Recreation offers simple and fun Create Your Own Web Page classes on March 2 and 9 at mid-day. For all the last-minute details, call 408.354.8700 ext. 221.
