Cuevas is three-over in Los Gatos golf win

By Dick Sparrer

Matt Cuevas knows his way around the fairways and greens at the LaRinconada Country Club.

And he proved it to visiting Lynbrook last week when he led the Wildcats to a 206-253 victory over the Vikings in nonleague golf competition.

Cuevas fired a three-over par 37 to lead Los Gatos to the win. John Gentry finished just two strokes behind Cuevas with a five-over 39.

Jon Stapleton finished the round with a 42 and Sean McIntyre was close behind at 43. Kyle Dietrick and Charlie Holcomb each carded a 45.

The Gatos golfers are still awaiting the debut of Marcia Wallis, who joins the team this week following a sensational soccer season.

And they're also waiting for the arrival of their head coach, Jim Marino, who leads the Los Gatos boys' basketball team into the Central Coast Section Division III semifinals this week.

Assistant coach Mike Costanzo is guiding the squad until Marino finishes the basketball season.
