Playground closed for safety repairs
On March 4, the children's playground at Vasona Lake County Park was closed for improvements. The Santa Clara County Parks and Recreation Department will need to replace the rubberized safety surface on the playground, said Reese Seah, the department's assistant civil engineer.
Existing rubber tiles on the bottom of the slide and on the swing areas are peeling off and will be replaced with one whole slab. According to Seah, the project cost estimate is $20,000. It's estimated that the children's playground, Vasona's only playground, will reopen on March 29.

The Los Gatos Union School district invites members of the public to attend two Superintendent Chats, at which Superintendent Mary Ann Park will discuss topics of interest regarding the district and its operations, including the April 9 parcel tax election.
The first chat will occur on March 8 from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at the Blossom Hill Elementary School Library. The second chat will occur on March 18 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Fisher Middle School Library.
Jeanine Harms' family to march in annual vigil
The family of missing Los Gatos woman Jeanine Sanchez Harms will participate in the fourth annual Vigil of Hope, a Modesto event to increase awareness and prevention of missing persons cases. On March 9, there will be a march starting at 12:30 p.m., followed by lunch, entertainment and speakers. Law enforcement representatives will be on hand to provide information on missing person cases and prevention, as well as offer fingerprinting for children.
Hosting the event is the Carole Sund/Carrington Memorial Reward Foundation, named after the woman who was reported missing and then discovered murdered in Yosemite, along with her daughter and friend.
Harms, 42, lived on Chirco Drive until she disappeared on July 27, 2001. Various relatives, including her parents, Jess and Georgette Sanchez, will attend the Vigil of Hope.
