    The Prowler

According to folk wisdom, "March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb." The Prowler thinks the lion part is less indicative of the weather--and least in these parts--than it is of the large amount of events roaring into town!

First up is a reception for the latest installment of Art in the Council Chambers on March 7. The artwork consists of more than 20 oil paintings by the students of Los Gatos High School art teacher Scott Downs. The school's home economics students will provide refreshments for the reception, which runs from 6 to 8 p.m. The paintings will be up through March 29.

Speaking of creative young people, the annual Kid's Art Event is coming up at the Art Museum of Los Gatos, at 4 Tait Ave. The exhibit runs March 7-28 and comprises work in all mediums by students in the Loma Prieta Joint Union School District, as well as by children at the Children's Shelter of Santa Clara County. A reception (with refreshments, of course!) takes place March 10 from 1 to 4 p.m.

This last event involves kids, but not art. Instead, it's martial arts! On March 23, in the Los Gatos High School gym, Andrew Fanelli, owner of All-Pro Tae Kwon Do, has turned a black belt testing into a public event. After all, it's not every day that seven kids reach that level all at once! They are: Jesse and Steven Dawson, Eric Hsieh, Andrew Stafford, Sharlene and Derek Su and George Tretiakoff.

The free event begins at noon, runs through 3 p.m. and includes board-breaking, weapon use, kicks, sparring and self-defense moves. The Los Gatos Lions Club will be on hand to sell food. The Prowler also hears there will be celebrities present from various Bay Area sports teams!
