Beau Knight is playing his basketball a few hundred miles from his Los Gatos home these days as a starting sophomore forward at the University of Redlands in Southern California.

But despite the miles, it was something of an old home week for Knight recently when he and his Redlands teammates lined up for a Southern Conference Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game against Pomona-Pitzer College. Because there at the opposite end of the court was Knight's former Los Gatos teammate, Ben Kane, a member of the Pomona squad.

Pomona-Pitzer won the game 75-70, but Knight poured in a season-high 30 points to lead the Bulldogs.

The scoring outburst came as little surprise to the Dogs'. Knight has been the scoring leader most of the year for Redlands and he was named the SCIAC male athlete of the week in early January.

    Ricks on winning team

Brian Ricks of Los Gatos is a member of the Santa Clara Valley Blackhawks, a midget B ice hockey team that won the President's Day Ice Hockey Tournament in Riverside, Calif. Ricks is a defenseman on the squad, which is currently second in its division at Logitec Ice in San Jose.

    Greenfield is honored

Lisa Greenfield of Los Gatos was named the Southern Division Player of the Week by the Collegiate Water Polo Association after a sensational weekend performance as the goalkeeper for the George Washington University women's water polo team.

Greenfield, a senior at the university in Washington, D.C., recorded 37 saves in leading the Colonials to three wins over the Feb. 23-24 weekend. Greenfield notched a team-record 19 saves in a win over Slippery Rock.

    DiNapoli Seventh

Emerson DiNapoli of Los Gatos placed high while competing for the California Fencing Academy at the Fencing Junior Olympic championships held in Columbus, Ohio.

DiNapoli, 15 and a freshman at Bellarmine, finished in a seventh-place tie in a field of 182 competitors in the men's cadet (under age 17) foil event. He was also 31st in the men's junior (under 20) foil. DiNapoli is currently ranked 20th in the nation in cadet men's foil and 49th in junior men's foil.

The California Fencing Academy is located in the Westgate West Shopping Center.
