Forbes Mill presents 'Los Gatos at War'

Villa Montalvo Artists' Open Studios

    The Prowler

Recently the Prowler was involved in a conversation in which a question came up for grabs: is nature full of art, or is art full of nature? This cat, who happens to love both areas, would rather say that both propositions are equally accurate! To that end, they are both part of this week's column.

Blending the two perfectly is the current exhibition in the art gallery at Villa Montalvo, our neighbor down Highway 9. Its title already offers a mouthful: Four Montalvo Artists Reflect on Organic Forms. This curious cat discovered that four former Montalvo artist residents, Claire Beaulieu, Nicole Lenzi and Bay Area artists Glen Rogers and Kerry Vander Meer each offer interpretations of how the organic and artistic combine. Leaves, flowers, seedpods and frogs are among the themes in this interesting multimedia exhibit. Montalvo is at 15400 Montalvo Road. Call 408.961.5813 for gallery hours or more info.

Speaking of folks who appreciate nature, Los Gatan and prolific painter Maralyn Miller is the featured artist through April 28 in the Art in the Council Chambers series sponsored by the Los Gatos Arts Commission. Among her favorite topics are landscapes, nature images and cats--the Prowler remembers this quite vividly, as it was one year ago this very month that Miller exhibited a show titled Cats, Etc. at Gallery Saratoga. The "etcetera" signified a sprinkling of the aforementioned natural scenes among the canvasses depicting Miller's favorite animal. The Prowler hasn't made it to the Chambers yet, which are downstairs in the Civic Center, but is hopeful there may be a feline likeness or two gracing the walls!
