The Prowler
This week, the Prowler has three events to share: one in Los Gatos, one down the road in Saratoga, and one that involves the entire country.
Local things first--now through April 9, Los Gatos resident and artist Jolene Anderson will be exhibiting a handful of her recent watercolors at 2wenty 9ine E. Main Cafe, the restaurant with the street address of the same name. While stopping recently at the cafe for a refreshing fruit smoothie, this cat also found refreshment in Anderson's pretty paintings.
They're not serving Grey Poupon, but the Mustard Festival on March 20 and 21 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Saratoga's Savannah Chanel Vineyards sounds fun nonetheless. The event celebrates the coming of spring and its concomitant yellow blooms of wild mustard. The $15 admission includes food and drink tickets, an 18 1/2-ounce crystal wine glass, tastings of some of Savannah Chanel's wines and gourmet mustards, and live entertainment by the Dizzy Burnett and Grover Coe Quartet (Saturday) and Ron E. Beck & the Humdaddies (Sunday). Call 741-2934 for more info or directions to the secluded winery off Congress Springs Road.
Young people of all ages are invited to participate in the Chief Operator Program, organized by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. It's a song contest focusing on traffic safety and teen driver issues. Budding songwriters write down the words to their original songs or rap pieces and record the lyrics on a cassette. No musical accompaniment needed--the NHTSA takes care of that! The winning entry will be professionally recorded, and the top songsters will receive cash prizes. For more info, call (510) 528-5701.
