    Voters approve school bonds

More than 65 percent of the voters in Santa Clara and Santa Cruz counties supported the $4,965,000 Measure K for the Loma Prieta Joint Union Elementary School District. According to ballot language, the measure will fund the replacement of classrooms at C.T. English Middle School that were damaged by the 6.9 Loma Prieta Earthquake in 1989, provide drinkable water, and construct, repair and furnish facilities at C.T. English and Loma Prieta Elementary School.

Nearly 67 percent of the voters in the Campbell Union School District--which includes Rolling Hills Middle School--passed the $74.9 million Measure H. The funds can be used for physical improvements for those schools.

    Greenbriar gets town's approval

Greenbriar Land Company will be able to start construction at Shannon and Hicks roads, after the Los Gatos Town Council approved its application to build a 14-home development March 4. Greenbriar had originally applied to build 30 houses three and a half years ago, but the development was scaled down to 14. Of Greenbriar's 80 acres, more than half will be dedicated as open space.

Council members approved a zone change, with conditions relating to landscaping, fencing and traffic lights. The application will return to the town for approval of its home designs in the architecture and site stage.
