Correction
The photograph in the sports section of the Feb. 27 Los Gatos Weekly Times was incorrectly identified. The photo pictured Los Gatos starter Ben Sandigo driving to the basket for a score.
Hylbert seventh
Bryce Hylbert, a second grader at Van Meter School, finished seventh in a field of 50 drivers at the Madera Western Grands quarter-midget racing event. Hylbert, 7, is in his second season in the Baylands Quarter Midget Race Club.
Rowing to wins
The Los Gatos Rowing Club made a big splash in the first regattas of the 2002 season.
The junior novice rowers opened the year in the 14-team field March 2 at Lake Merced, and the women's 4 boat topped a list of several Gatos squads finishing in the top three by pulling to a first-place finish.
A day later, the Los Gatos varsity finished first in the three-team competition at Redwood Shores. The men's and women's lightweight boats each finished first to lead the Gatos effort.
Great Race
There's not much time to prepare, so runners had better step up the pace if they hope to compete in the annual Great Race, a 4-mile race from Saratoga to Los Gatos.
More than 2,500 participants are expected for the event, which will wrap up with festivities in downtown Los Gatos. The race is sponsored by the Los Gatos Rotary Club.
Soccer tryouts
Tryouts for the Los Gatos United Soccer League's boys under-9 comp team will be held March 17 and 23 at Fisher Middle School. Players should report in soccer wear--shorts, shin guards, soccer shoes--and should bring a water bottle and sweat shirt. For more information, contact coach Jeff Rose at 408.358.7394 or roseentr@attbi.com.
Youth Volleyball
The United States Volleyball League is holding registration for the 2002 spring seasons which will run from April 17 through June 8 at Los Gatos High School.
