Evensong features organist
Dr. Elizabeth Harrison, an organist and faculty member at Stanford University, performs a recital following the evensong service at St. Luke's Episcopal Church on April 2, at 4 p.m. Evensong is the traditional Episcopalian service of vespers. St. Luke's Rev. David Breuer officiates during the service, and the men of the church choir sing.
Harrison, who holds a master's degree from the New England Conservatory of Music and a doctorate from Stanford, spent three years studying abroad at the North German Organ Academy. She has become known as a leading expert on Baroque organ and pedagogy, and has written several articles on the topic. She also serves as business manager for the Westfield Center for Early Keyboard Studies.
The April 2 program includes works by Johann Sebastian Bach, Beethoven and Buxtehude. Everyone is welcome for the evensong service and concert. There is no charge to attend, but a freewill offering will be accepted. St. Luke's is at 20 University Ave., near the corner of W. Main Street. For more information, call 408.354.2195.
