    Student art on display

    The Art Docents of Los Gatos present their 2002 annual children's art show, "Art through the Ages," sponsored by Tercera Gallery. Almost every student in the Los Gatos Union School District will have a work on display. Members of the public may view the works of art in the Fisher Middle School cafeteria, 17000 Roberts Road, April 1-4 from 8:45 a.m. to 4 p.m. and April 5 from 8:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. For more information, call the Art Docents at 408.335.2366, or email artdocents@hotmail.com.

    Fisher students win math award

    Fisher Middle School captured an honorable mention team trophy in the Santa Clara Valley Chapter Mathcounts competition.

    R. B. Embleton and Brett Mommaerts tied for being the top individual scorers on the team, which also included Andrew Chen and Eric Hsieh. Jan Blasberg was the coach.

    Dora Chua won the award for being the top scorer for the individual entries from the school. Fisher students Sarah Blumenthal, Kai Hayashi and Jane Goldsmith also entered as individuals.

    The California Society of Professional Engineers hosted the 19th annual contest, which took place on Feb. 2 at San Jose State University.

    LGHS junior goes to D.C.

    The National Student Leadership Conference has selected Carolyn Penner, a Los Gatos High School junior, to attend its conference on medicine and healthcare in Washington, D.C., this summer.

    Penner and 1,500 other potential student leaders from around the world will attend workshops and classes on "distinctions of leadership," at which guest speakers will attempt to bring current national and international issues to life. Past special guest speakers include former Attorney General Janet Reno, former U.S. Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor and world-renowned surgeons and medical researchers.
