Auto club warns travelers about hoof-and-mouth
AAA is warning people traveling to Europe to take extra precautions, to prevent the spread of the highly contagious hoof-and-mouth disease. The disease, which has been reported in several Northern European countries, does not threaten humans, but can be devastating to cloven-hooved animals.
AAA is telling travelers to: Avoid visiting zoos, farms, animal clinics and other areas frequented by cloven-hooved animals; launder and/or sterilize all clothing, shoes and personal items that may have been soiled; and don't bring agricultural products back from overseas--it's currently illegal. When you return, avoid contact with wildlife and livestock for five days. For more information, contact AAA at 415.565.7869.
