    Filice is named scholar-athlete

    Christy Filice, a 1997 graduate of Los Gatos High School, was honored as a scholar-athlete by the NCAA with a place on its Scholar-Athlete Regional Soccer team.

    Filice, a senior defender at Texas Christian University, was named to the South first team after posting a 3.76 grade point average.

    Filice played for Central Coast Section championship teams at Los Gatos and was a four-year starter as a defender at TCU.

    Soccer clinic

    The Southwest YMCA will host a five-day soccer clinic for players and coaches in April, presented by professional players from the United Kingdom.

    The clinic, directed by Britannia Soccer, begins April 9, and there are half- and full-day classes for both beginners and advanced players.

    Britannia Soccer is commited to advancing the sports in the United States and emphasizes the importance of moral and social values, promotes important topics such as school attendance, improving grades, honor systems and responsibility away from the field of play, says Missy Tabler, Southwest YMCA program director.

    Recreational soccer Signups

    The Los Gatos United Soccer League will registration for the fall recreational league season on April 17, April 25 and May 3, 6:30-9 p.m. each night, in the cafeteria at Fisher Middle School.

    Players must provide a copy of their birth certificate, a check for payment for each player and a completed registration form. For more information, call 408.354.7006
