    The Prowler

Art, art and more art is the subject of this week's column. Even when there's slim pickings otherwise, the Prowler can always count on this creative field to provide fodder.

Los Gatan Janet Fullmer Bajorek, owner and director of Iguana Galleries, invites the public to the gallery's 10th annual open house and art sale on April 29 and 30, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 120 Clover Way. Along with Bajorek's trademark whimsical ceramics, this cat hears the event also features oil and watercolor paintings by Hugo Lecaros, whom Bajorek touts as "the Van Gogh of South America," and etchings, mezzotints and collagraphs by Martha Zappe. If the latter terms sound unfamiliar, the Prowler recommends attending the open house to find out what they mean! Call 408.356.1057 for more info.

Another artsy Los Gatan, Deborah Haeffele, invites collectors to premiere her new series of paintings, La Bellissima Italia del Nord--beautiful northern Italy, at a wine and hors d'oeuvres reception on April 29 from 2 to 6 p.m. For directions to the event, call 408.358.0124.

Heading down Highway 9 again to our neighboring Saratoga, the Prowler discovered the Gallery at Villa Montalvo is hosting the photo competition portion of the Olympiad of the Arts 2000 from April 13 through May 7. The Olympiad is an annual contest open to all Santa Clara County high school and college students. An artists' reception takes place on April 13, from 5 to 7 p.m., at which time exhibit juror Max Crumley will be present, along with members of the West Valley College photography department. The public is welcome. The Gallery is at 15400 Montalvo Road. Call 408.961.5813 for info!
